Lemonade stand was a cool reminder...
To the editor,
Labor Day Weekend I had occasion to quench my thirst at a lemonade and chocolate chip cookie roadside stand on my way to Kennebunk Beach.
What distinguished this cool event on a hot summer's day was the fact that the proceeds from this 2nd annual sidewalk sale were donated to "Mary's Walk", Cancer Care and Research headquartered in Saco, Maine. More than $100 was raised from generous tourists, residents and neighbors.
Young Harrison (Harry) Brownstein, age 7, of 39 Fairfield Drive, Kennebunk, organized the effort with the support of several young friends and his parents, Joel and Judy Brownstein, in memory of Harry's great-grandfather, Louis Jay Windt, who was a cancer victim. At the end of the day Harry said, "We'll do better next year."
Who says volunteers are a vanishing breed? Next time you have a chance to volunteer you need to answer only two simple questions, "If not you... who? If not now... when?"
